Fiona Shields

Fiona Shields has recently been appointed as Acting Chief Executive of ESC.
She has worked for over ten years in the voluntary sector within Scotland and the North and South of Ireland. Over this time she gained an in depth understanding of the critical issues facing the communities she worked for. As a community development worker Fiona established groups for youth, people dealing with mental health issues and people with learning difficulties and disabilities. Using this comprehensive knowledge of the sector, Fiona worked with colleagues to develop an environmental arts business around a social economy model that included beneficiaries, historically excluded from the labour market, at every stage of the process.
Taking her understanding of the value of effective communications Fiona went on to train at the BBC working as a researcher until moving, in the capacity of production manager and researcher, to an independent film and television production company.
